Alice in Wonderland
Kids-N-Co. will have auditions for a highly stylized Alice meets the Cirque du Soleil production of the Lewis Carroll classic 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday at 1301 Texas Ave.

Roles are available for six male and three female teenagers and young adults. Having the appearance of a dancer or gymnast is desirable; having those actual abilities is even more so.

“Alice in Wonderland” will be performed weekends Nov. 29 - Dec. 21 at Kids-n-Co. and Chamizal National Memorial Theatre.

Aids walk
A 5-mile walk to raise funds and awareness for El Pasoans infected and affected by AIDS/HIV will take place Oct. 25 at Memorial Park across from the Aquatic Center.

Registration for Aids Walk El Paso 2008 is at 8 a.m., and the walk begins at 8:30 a.m.

When the walk ends at 10:30 a.m., there will be a health fair, entertainment, food and walk prizes.

All proceeds from the event go directly to International Aids Empowerment’s emergency financial assistance program which assists clients with housing, food, clothing, counseling, and anonymous HIV testing.

Trade conference
The Foreign Trade without Borders Conference, organized by AMAC, will be held Oct. 29 - 31 at the Cibeles Convention Center, Juarez.

El Paso Symphony
British violinist Chloë Hanslip will perform with the El Paso Symphony 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17 and 18 at the Plaza Theatre.

They will perform a Spanish and Latin flavored program including Korngold’s romantic “Violin Concerto.”

Hanslip is considered a child prodigy. She took her first lesson at age 3 and at age 4 made her solo debut in London’s Purcell Room. By 10, she played in some of the world’s major concerts halls, including Carnegie Hall and the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Design symposium
Eco-Build El Paso will hold a symposium on sustainable building design and construction Oct. 16 at the Camino Real Hotel and El Paso Main Library.

The conference will feature local, regional and national speakers who will explore environmentally responsible eco-building in the Chihuahuan Desert region.

Impressionist exhibition
Members of the Classical Impressionists of El Paso will present their exclusive original exhibition, “New Impressions of the National Parks of the Southwest,” Nov. 13 at the Los Paisanos Gallery, Chamizal National Memorial.

More than 60 paintings will be featured including a dozen pieces created throughout the summer based on national parks of the Southwest.

FORUM art show
The art show “In-House ‘08” opens with a reception 5 - 8 p.m. Friday at FORUM Arts and Culture, 705 Texas.

The show is open to the public and runs until Oct. 30.

Musical at the Plaza
Irving Berlin’s “I Love A Piano” comes to the Plaza Theatre for one performance at 8 p.m. Nov. 14.

Day of the dead
In celebration of Dias de los Muertos, the El Paso Museum of Archaeology located at 4301 Transmountain, will present a traditional ofrenda and Day of the Dead exhibit, pan del Muerto and Mexican chocolate from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Nov. 1.

Activities include holiday face painting and theatrical performances of “Danse Macabre” at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and noon.

There will be traditional Mexican music by Ceiba and tequila tasting from 1 – 4 p.m. There is a $5 donation per taste for non-members, one free taste for current museum members, and two free tastes for becoming a member.

Wizard of Oz
Kids-N-Co. presents the play “Wizard of Oz” Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. until Oct. 26 at the Kids-N-Co. Performance Center, 1301 Texas.

The play, directed by Carol Viescas and adapted for stage by Claude Townley, features a cast ranging in age from 8 – 58.

Organ concert
The El Paso chapter of the American Guild of Organists will host a free concert 2:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at Trinity-First United Methodist Church, corner of Yandell and Mesa.

The program, to celebrate the International Year of the Organ, will feature local organists and the Quintessential Brass Ensemble.

Photography show
An exhibit hosted by the local photography club, Megapixels, of monochrome and color digital images is on display Monday - Friday 6 a.m. - 10 p.m., Saturdays 8 a.m. - 10 p.m., and Sundays 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. until Nov. 30 at Lighthouse Coffee Co, 10060 Rushing.

Car show
Adult Probation in coordination with the El Paso Anti-Graffiti Task Force hosts the 4th annual Hot Rod and Custom Car Show noon to 7 p.m. Oct. 18 at VFW Tigua Post 8782, 691 N. Carolina.

The show features more than 200 monster trucks, souped-up racers, vintage vehicles and many creatively designed automobiles.

There will be live entertainment by the Breeze Band, Little Mike and the Blue Kings as well as food and drink booths and activities for children.

Proceeds from the show will go to the Anti-Graffiti Task Force.

Third Thursday
A Venice style masquerade ball with Italian food, beverages, dancing and live entertainment will be held 5:30 – 8 p.m. Oct. 16 at the El Paso Museum of Art as a Third Thursday event.

Masks are not required, but prizes will be awarded for the best masks in four categories: fierce, chic, comical and scary.

The entrance denotation is $8 for non-members and $5 for museum members.

Three of a kind

Threepenny Opera
The UTEP Department of Theatre and Dance is performing “The Threepenny Opera” at 8 p.m. Oct. 17 – 18 and 23 – 25, and at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 19 and 26 at the Wise Family Theatre.
